As a wedding photographer, I have the privilege of documenting the beautiful love stories of couples from all walks of life across the world. Each tale is unique, with so many moments of joy, support and heartfelt moments. Today, I'm thrilled to share with you the lovely story of Lily and James, whose love blossomed from a chance encounter at church and now to an engagement session.

The Beginning:

James and Lily’s love story started in a quiet places – a church where fate intervened (and friends!) and sparked the flame of their romance.  Their friends thought that they would be great together.   Finally, it was during one of these gatherings that Lily mentioned a particular band that happened to be a favorite of James, igniting a conversation that would spark interest.

With their shared love for music serving as the catalyst, Lily and James  finally decided to go out on a date.   During a crisp February evening, the air alive with anticipation and the whisper of new beginnings. Nestled in the heart of Kansas City, amidst the bustling streets and twinkling city lights, they savored the flavors of Thai cuisine, their laughter mingling and sparks flying.

Fast forward to another chilly day in downtown Kansas City, where the echoes of their first date still lingered in the air. Against a backdrop of historic landmarks and brick streets, Lily and Jame’s engagement session unfolded like a chapter from a fairytale. Capturing Highschool Sweethearts: A Cloudy Day Anniversary Photo Session at Nelson-Atkins Museum

The Nelson Atkins Museum of Art is one of my favorite places to visit and also to use as a photography location in Kansas City.  This session was extra special, not only because of the location but I absolutely adored working with this couple.   I’ve known them separately and in the most recent years together. Jaclynn and I are photography friends that have a blast shooting weddings together.   And Nick and I used to do country swing dancing.  So when Jaclynn asked me to capture such a special  occasion for them I was MORE than thrilled!

These two are high school sweethearts.   The timing wasn’t right though after high school because they needed to go separated ways, just for a time.   They did their own growth individually and then their stories came back together, they dated, became engaged, married and now this was their third anniversary!  Such a beautiful love story that’s continuing to unfold.

As you can tell, this isn’t your typical museum visit – this was a sweet 3rd anniversary photoshoot at the one and only Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art right here in Kansas City, Missouri.

So I had the pleasure of capturing this couple in the midst of stunning art, huge columns, with snuggles, kisses and laughter from this precious couple

Picture this – actually, you don’t have to because I captured the images for you!  But here is a verbal picture,  hand in hand, a couple in formal wear,  strolling through the grounds of this stunning museum, surrounded by unique architecture, sculptures that tell stories of history and time.  The Nelson-Atkins provided the perfect backdrop for this classy photoshoot.

So there you have it – a love story that can compete with the story books. Whether you're a local Midwesterner or a couple that loves to travel looking for the perfect backdrop for your love story, I’ve got you covered. Here's to love, laughter, and a lifetime of memories in KC, across the USA and through the world. Look forward to seeing you at my next post!

Here is a controversial opinion

Here is a controversial opinion. You don’t have to go over the top to propose.

You don’t have to go over the top to propose.

It doesn’t have to be the biggest, fanciest or craziest experience of your life.

If you are the rad couple that would love a flash mob, DO IT. Because it’s you.

But if you aren’t, don’t feel the pressure to plan “the best, most expensive moment of our lives” if it isn’t  authentically you as a couple or makes you both uncomfortable.

I think it’s more significant to have a personalized  moment that you will both treasure for the rest of your lives.

Plan a moment that is special to you and your partner, it can be the place you had your first kiss, your first date, an activity that you love to do together, a new experience if you love to do new things together, a place you’ve dreamed of going together or a favorite hiking spot.   Long story short, if you know you and your s/o will connect over the moment, it’ll be beautiful and the best proposal for YOU BOTH as a couple.
